2008 Judges announced

18th January 2008

Winners of the Recognition Award 2008 will be selected by a panel of leading designers and practitioners of the design arena. Industry journalists, editors, professional design-buyers and designers will all have their say in the selection of winners for 2008.

The Judges

Greg Quinton

Greg is a Creative Partner at The Partners, the UK’s most awarded branding consultancy.

With a London based team of forty, The Partners are world players. In 1991 they became part of the global group, WPP, giving them a reach across international waters.

As well as a great creative team, The Partners are an inspiration to the design community; they even have their own pub.

Ben Hodge

Since leaving University (Bath Spa University, summer 2005) Ben has worked as a Graphic Designer for The Team, one of the UK’s leading Brand Communication Consultancies.

The Team have received countless plaudits and are many time recipients of the important Design Effectiveness Awards. Recent high–profile clients include English National Ballet, Metropolitan Police and the NHS.

Caroline Roberts

As editor of Grafik magazine, Caroline is one of the UK’s most influential and outspoken commentators on design.

Since the editorial buy out of the magazine in 2005 it has gone from strength to strength, sharpening the cutting edge of graphic design and showcasing some of the creative work from the UK and well beyond. It is essential monthly reading.

The Grafik team also recently produced Grafik 150, an historical celebration of 150 issues (including the years when it was called Graphics International). It’s a great little book, available at all good retail outlets.

Jason Walsh

Jason Walsh is a poacher turned gamekeeper. This former designer, based in Dublin, is now a freelance journalist, specialising in design, technology and new media.

Jason is a regular article writer for the excellent high–street publication .net, has contributed to The Guardian and almost every technology magazine you can think of.

Kathryn Cook

Kathryn was a winner of a Recognition Award in 2007. Her entry featured animals who have performed remarkable feats of bravery. As a mature student, she’d pursued a passion for illustration after jobs in the fashion industry. She was heavily pregnant whilst at Cog on work experience; in October 2007, she gave birth to her first child

Lucinda Hilbery

Lucinda is the Communications Manager at the International Live Music Producers, Serious. As well as looking after publicity for a multitude of national and international tours, she is also responsible for the wonderful London Jazz Festival, an annual, capital–wide musical celebration.

Rachel Collins

Rachel Collins is the Communications Manager at Wellcome Collection.

Housed in a magnificent building on Euston Road, London, the Collection is a unique mix of galleries, events, and meeting, reading and eating places where you can consider what it means to be human.

Their current exhibition, Sleeping & Dreaming, explores the themes through the eyes of artists, scientists, film–makers and historians
